Microsoft Advertising Expands LinkedIn Company Lists to 10,000 Companies

On September 30, 2026, Microsoft Advertising announced an expansion of its LinkedIn company targeting capabilities. Advertisers can now add up to 10,000 companies to a single list, compared with the previous limit of 1,000.

At the same time, the ability to add companies in bulk became available directly during campaign setup or through the Audience Library.

The update is primarily intended for B2B advertisers using Account-Based Marketing (ABM): promoting products and services to employees of predefined companies.

What Are LinkedIn Company Lists?

Microsoft Advertising uses LinkedIn professional data to target ads based on audience characteristics.

One of these characteristics is the company listed in a user's LinkedIn profile.

For example, an enterprise software provider can show ads to employees of Microsoft, Salesforce, or selected manufacturing companies.

However, the ads are displayed not on LinkedIn, but within Microsoft's advertising ecosystem, including Search and Audience campaigns.

LinkedIn Company Lists allow advertisers to combine the names of target organizations into a single list and apply it to advertising campaigns.

This is especially useful for ABM: instead of broadly targeting the IT industry, advertisers can focus on specific companies that match their ideal customer profile.

How It Worked Before

Microsoft Advertising already supported company targeting based on LinkedIn data.

However, working with large lists involved limitations: the maximum number of companies was 1,000, and adding them manually significantly complicated the preparation of large-scale B2B campaigns.

Consider a company that sells enterprise software and has a database of 8,000 potential customers.

Before the update, the advertiser had to divide the database into several lists and perform additional audience setup tasks.

For agencies working with multiple clients and thousands of target companies, this created a significant amount of manual work.

What Changed in September 2026?

The update includes two main changes.

1. Increase in the Limit to 10,000 Companies

A single LinkedIn Company List can now contain ten times as many organizations.

For example, an advertiser can upload a list of 8,000 target companies and use it to promote an enterprise product demo.

2. Bulk Company Uploads

Advertisers no longer need to enter company names one at a time. A list can be added when creating a campaign or through the Audience Library, then associated with the relevant campaigns and ad groups.

Important: the 10,000-company limit refers to the size of the list. Microsoft's documentation also mentions a separate limit on the number of companies that can be directly targeted within a single ad group. Therefore, the size of the uploaded audience and the actual setup limits for a specific campaign should be checked separately.

How to Create a LinkedIn Company List

An audience can be created directly in Microsoft Advertising.

  1. Open Tools → Audiences.
  2. Go to the Company Lists section.
  3. Select Create.
  4. Enter a name for the list.
  5. Add the names of target companies, one organization per line.
  6. Save the list and wait for it to be processed.
  7. Select the list and associate it with the appropriate campaigns or ad groups.

Microsoft also supports adding target companies while creating campaigns.

After upload, the system needs time to match companies with available LinkedIn data. According to Microsoft Advertising's explanations, processing a list may take one to two days.

Before uploading, it is recommended to verify organization names, remove duplicates, and make sure the companies have a presence on LinkedIn.

How to Use Company Lists in B2B Marketing

Account-Based Marketing. A company can create a list of priority enterprise customers from its CRM and run ads targeting employees of those organizations.

Enterprise Lead Generation. Instead of attracting all users searching for a particular type of software, an advertiser can improve audience relevance by using a target company list.

Promoting New Products to Existing Customers. Lists make it possible to identify organizations for cross-sell and upsell campaigns, provided the relevant reach is available.

Company Exclusions. Microsoft also describes the use of exclusion lists. For example, advertisers can exclude their own employees or organizations for which the product is not suitable.

Account Value Segmentation. Instead of creating a single list of 10,000 organizations, an advertiser can build separate audiences for strategic accounts, mid-market businesses, and prospective companies.

The last approach is particularly interesting for agencies: it allows them to analyze the performance of different ABM segments rather than combining the entire corporate audience into one group.

Can You Add Job Seniority and Industry?

Microsoft Advertising supports other LinkedIn professional characteristics, including industry and seniority level.

This allows advertisers to supplement their ABM strategy with professional audience data.

However, it is important to consider how these targeting conditions are combined. According to Microsoft Advertising's explanations, LinkedIn Profile Targeting attributes used together may operate according to OR logic rather than requiring an AND intersection.

Therefore, adding Job Seniority to a company list does not always mean that ads will be shown exclusively to executives within the selected organizations.

Before launching, advertisers should verify the actual targeting logic and available settings for the relevant campaign type.

Availability Limitations

LinkedIn Company Lists are available to advertisers in supported countries, but the audience data has important geographic restrictions.

Microsoft explicitly states that user data from the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland is excluded from this tool.

Consequently, advertisers should not expect to reach employees of European companies located in these regions through LinkedIn Company Lists.

In addition, matching a company name on the list with an organization on LinkedIn does not guarantee that all of its employees will be available for ad targeting.

Reach is determined by the availability of relevant user data and the advertising platform's settings.

Why This Update Matters

The expansion of LinkedIn Company Lists is not the launch of a new targeting technology. Microsoft has increased the scale of an existing tool and simplified the management of corporate audiences.

For B2B advertisers, this means fewer manual tasks, more convenient organization of ABM campaigns, and the ability to use larger lists of target accounts.

At the same time, increasing the limit alone does not guarantee improvements in CPA or lead quality.

Performance still depends on company selection, the commercial offer, the quality of advertising messages, and accurate measurement of results in the CRM.

The main value of the update is the ability to scale Account-Based Marketing in Microsoft Advertising without the previous restrictions on LinkedIn Company List size.
