X image ads use the same core visual rules across several CTA formats, but each format adds its own limits for copy, app metadata, poll options, conversation flows, or website card fields. Use the checklist below when preparing static image creatives for X Ads.
Shared Aspect Ratios
- Expanded ratios: 4:5 at 1440 × 1800 px; 2:3 at 1080 × 1620 px.
- Already supported ratios: 1:1 at 1080 × 1080 px; 1.91:1 at 2064 × 1080 px; 16:9 at 1920 × 1080 px; 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 px.
Image Ads with App Buttons
- Image size: 800 × 418 px recommended for 1.91:1; 800 × 800 px recommended for 1:1.
- App title: truncated at 200 characters; pulled from the app store and not customizable.
- Call to Action: Install, Open, Play, Shop, Book, Connect, and Order.
Image Ads with Conversation Buttons
- Image size: 800 × 418 px recommended for 1.91:1.
- Composer: creation is no longer available in the standard Post composer.
- Alternative: Brand Networks provides an end-to-end Conversation Cards composer at composer.bn.co.
- Original post copy: 280 characters.
- Hashtag: 21 characters, including the hashtag character.
- Pre-populated post copy: 256 characters after a user clicks the CTA.
- Headline: 23 characters.
- Thank You text: 23 characters.
- Thank You URL: optional; 23 characters.
Image Ads with Polls
- Image size: 800 × 418 px recommended for 1.91:1; 800 × 800 px recommended for 1:1.
- Composer: creation is no longer available in the standard Post composer.
- Alternative: Brand Networks provides an end-to-end Media Poll composer at composer.bn.co.
- GIF support: GIFs are not supported at this time.
- Post copy: up to 280 characters above the image.
- Poll options: 2 to 4 custom poll options.
- Poll copy: 25 characters per option; this does not count against the 280-character post copy limit.
- Poll duration: from 5 minutes to 7 days; duration starts when the post is created, not when it is promoted.
Image Ads with Website Card
- Image size: 800 × 418 px recommended for 1.91:1; 800 × 800 px recommended for 1:1.
- Media headline length: max 70 characters.
- Truncation guidance: up to two lines may render on the card title; limiting the headline to 50 characters is safer across most devices.
- Headline position: 8 to 12 px from the left and bottom of the image.
- URL: must begin with http:// or https://.
Standalone Image Ads
- Image size: 1200 × 1200 px recommended for 1:1; 1200 × 628 px recommended for 1.91:1.
- Expanded image view: larger images are better optimized when users click to expand.
- Best use: simple image-led promotion without app, website card, poll, or conversation mechanics.
Keep image headlines and CTA text shorter than the maximum whenever possible. Device size, app settings, and card rendering can affect how much copy is actually visible.
