Microsoft Advertising Introduced Mass Editing of Rejected Advertising Materials

In August 2026, Microsoft Advertising introduced Bulk Edit Disapproved Assets, a tool for making bulk corrections to advertising assets rejected during editorial review and submitting appeals.

Previously, advertisers often had to locate problematic elements within individual ads and correct them one at a time. Now, they can view editorial review status directly in the Assets section, filter disapproved assets, and take action on multiple items at once.

The feature is available in Microsoft Advertising accounts and supports text and image assets. For agencies and companies managing large numbers of campaigns, it primarily provides a way to reduce manual work and restore ad delivery more quickly.

What Are Disapproved Assets?

Assets are individual elements of advertisements, including headlines, descriptions, images, and other materials used to create ads.

For example, a Responsive Search Ad can contain up to 15 headlines and four descriptions. Microsoft Advertising uses different combinations of these elements when displaying ads to users.

Before ads are served, their assets undergo editorial review to ensure compliance with Microsoft's advertising policies.

If an individual headline or image violates these policies, it may receive a Disapproved status. The Approved (limited) status means that ad delivery is permitted but subject to certain restrictions, such as in specific countries.

Assets may be disapproved for various reasons, including prohibited advertising claims, restrictions on certain products, issues with image content, or failure to comply with local requirements.

However, the disapproval of a single asset does not necessarily stop the entire ad from running.

Since late 2025, Microsoft Advertising has used more granular editorial review at the individual asset level. If an ad contains a sufficient number of approved elements, it may continue serving even when some headlines or images have been disapproved.

However, certain combinations become unavailable, potentially limiting reach.

What Changed in August 2026?

Previously, advertisers could edit or appeal individual disapproved assets, but these operations required numerous repetitive actions when managing large numbers of ads.

The update introduced a more convenient mechanism for handling editorial reviews in bulk.

In the Campaigns → Assets section, advertisers can:

  • View the editorial review status of individual advertising assets.
  • Filter assets by Policy status.
  • See the reasons for disapproval provided by Microsoft's editorial review system.
  • Select multiple problematic assets simultaneously.
  • Edit assets in bulk or request another review.

For example, if an advertiser used an unsuitable phrase in dozens of headlines, they can find the affected assets and make corrections more quickly.

Another example is a company running advertising in several countries, where certain assets receive restrictions due to local policies. Filtering by status makes it possible to identify the issue before it goes unnoticed in overall campaign performance reports.

How to Fix Disapproved Assets

The process begins in Microsoft Advertising.

  1. Open Campaigns → Assets.
  2. Find the Policy status column and add it to the table if necessary.
  3. Filter assets with a Disapproved or Approved (limited) status.
  4. Review the reason for disapproval.
  5. Select the affected assets and choose the available editing or appeal action.
  6. Save the changes or submit a request for another review.

If the reason for disapproval is valid, it is better to correct the advertising copy or replace the image.

If the advertiser believes that an asset complies with the policies, they can submit an appeal instead of changing the creative.

An important limitation: image assets cannot simply be edited within the existing image. A replacement must be uploaded.

In addition, when appealing an ad, all disapproved elements within that ad must be considered. Under certain conditions, approved assets may continue serving while the appeal is being reviewed.

Microsoft also provides a limit of up to 5,000 ads per exception request.

Limitations of the New Feature

Bulk editing does not cover absolutely every object in Microsoft Advertising.

In the initial implementation, asset status management is focused on the ad and ad group levels. Support for account-wide and campaign-level controls is limited.

Performance Max is not included in the scope of this version of the tool. Disapproved Asset Groups and certain other objects may require separate procedures, including contacting support.

The new feature also does not replace dedicated processes for correcting disapproved keywords, extensions, and product feeds.

Therefore, advertisers need to verify which actions are available for each specific object type rather than assuming that all disapprovals can be handled through a universal bulk editing process.

Why This Matters for Advertisers

The main advantage of Bulk Edit Disapproved Assets is reducing the time between identifying an editorial review issue and correcting it.

For a small advertising account with only a few ads, the time savings may be insignificant.

However, large online retailers, international brands, and agencies often manage hundreds of ads and thousands of individual assets.

At this scale, manually reviewing every disapproval becomes a significant operational task.

The new feature helps identify problematic headlines and images more quickly, reduces the likelihood of restrictions going unnoticed, and simplifies the work of specialists responsible for advertising policy compliance.

At the same time, the update itself does not guarantee lower CPA, higher ROAS, or improved CTR. Its impact depends on how frequently an advertiser encounters disapprovals and how significantly those restrictions affect campaign delivery.

The feature primarily solves a practical problem: helping advertising teams spend less time managing editorial reviews and return corrected assets to the advertising platform more quickly.
